Common questions
What are the signs of caregiver stress?
Common signs include exhaustion, trouble sleeping, worry, low mood, anger or irritability, pulling away from friends, trouble concentrating, and neglecting your own health. The Alzheimer's Association advises talking with your doctor if you have any of these signs regularly.
Is it normal to feel angry at the person I care for?
Yes. Many caregivers feel anger or frustration at times, at the person, at their lost abilities, or at the situation. It does not make you a bad person. It is a sign you need rest and support.
Where can caregivers find support?
Start with your own doctor, family and friends. In the US, the Alzheimer's Association and the Family Caregiver Alliance offer caregiver information and support, and your local Area Agency on Aging can point you to respite care.
