Do I need therapy? A checklist
Many people wonder if their problems are "bad enough" for therapy. Tick the signs that fit you lately. The list is drawn from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the American Psychiatric Association.

Common questions
How do I know if I need therapy?
NIMH suggests getting professional help if you have severe or distressing symptoms that last two weeks or more, such as trouble sleeping, appetite changes, trouble concentrating, loss of interest, or not being able to do your usual tasks.
Do I have to be in crisis to see a therapist?
No. You can see a therapist for stress, grief, worry, relationship problems or a big life change. Getting help early often makes things easier.
Where do I start?
Your primary care doctor is a good first stop and can refer you. You can also search for a licensed therapist directly. Our therapy finder walks you through it step by step.
