Common questions
Is social media bad for your mental health?
It depends on how and how much it is used. The APA says it is not in itself good or bad; heavy use, poor sleep and comparing your looks are linked to harm, while connection and support can help.
How much social media is too much for teens?
In one long-term study, teens who spent more than 3 hours a day had double the risk of depression and anxiety symptoms. The Surgeon General suggests tech-free times, such as meals and the hour before bed.
Does passive scrolling make you feel worse?
Research suggests it can. In two studies, passive Facebook use led to drops in mood over time, partly by increasing envy.
