Common questions
Can you lower your risk of dementia?
Possibly. The 2024 Lancet Commission estimated that around 45% of dementia cases worldwide might be prevented or delayed by addressing 14 risk factors, though no single habit can guarantee it.
What are the 14 risk factors for dementia?
Less education, hearing loss, high LDL cholesterol, depression, head injury, physical inactivity, smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, too much alcohol, social isolation, air pollution and untreated vision loss.
Do brain games or supplements prevent dementia?
There is not enough evidence that commercial brain-training games or memory supplements prevent dementia. Check with your doctor before taking any supplement.
