Common questions
How long do antidepressants take to work?
They usually start to have an effect in 1 to 2 weeks and can take up to 8 weeks to work fully. Sleep and energy often improve before mood.
Can I stop my antidepressant when I feel better?
Talk with your prescriber first. Stopping suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms, and your prescriber can help you lower the dose slowly if that is right for you.
Are antidepressants safe for older adults?
Ask your prescriber about your own medicine. CDC lists antidepressants among medicines linked to falls in people 65 and older, so a regular medicine review is a good idea.
