AUDIT · 10 questions · 2 minutes
A closer look at your drinking.
The AUDIT is the World Health Organization's 10-question test for risky drinking, used by doctors in many countries. The first three questions are about how much you drink; the rest are about signs that drinking is causing problems. One drink means one standard drink: a 12 oz beer (5%), a 5 oz glass of wine (12%) or a 1.5 oz shot of spirits (40%).

Common questions
How is the AUDIT different from the AUDIT-C?
The AUDIT-C is the first three questions, about how much you drink. The full AUDIT adds seven questions about signs of harm and dependence, so it gives a fuller picture.
What do the four zones mean?
The WHO groups scores into four zones: 0–7 lower risk, 8–15 hazardous, 16–19 harmful, and 20 or more possible dependence. Each zone comes with a recommended level of help. Your doctor can tell you what fits you.
